Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- ½ cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup (25 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ tsp baking powder
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Chocolate Add-ins
- 100 g dark or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped (or chips)
- A handful of chocolate chunks (optional)
- A pinch of espresso powder (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Skillet: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Generously grease a small oven-safe skillet (6–8 inch) or ramekin with butter to prevent sticking and ensure easy serving.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, salt, and baking powder until fully combined and evenly distributed.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the melted unsalted butter, eggs, and pure vanilla extract until smooth and combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the brownies tender.
- Fold in Chocolate: Gently fold in the chopped dark or semi-sweet chocolate and, if using, the extra chocolate chunks and a pinch of espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared skillet, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 18–22 minutes, depending on your preferred doneness. For a molten, gooey center, bake closer to 18 minutes; for a more set top, bake closer to 22 minutes.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the brownie to cool slightly in the skillet to set the top but retain a gooey center. Serve directly from the skillet topped with ice cream, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Use a 6 to 8-inch oven-safe skillet or ramekin for best results.
- A pinch of espresso powder enhances the chocolate flavor but is optional.
- Be careful not to overbake; the center should remain slightly gooey for the best texture.
- Serve warm immediately or reheat gently before serving to enjoy the gooey texture.
- Chocolate chunks can be varied according to preference: milk, dark, or semi-sweet all work well.
