Description

This Cheesy Tart with Brie, Cranberries, and Toasted Walnuts is an elegant yet easy-to-make appetizer or snack. Featuring flaky puff pastry topped with creamy Brie cheese, sweet and tart dried cranberries, crunchy toasted walnuts, and finished with a drizzle of spicy hot honey and fresh thyme, this tart combines delightful textures and flavors perfect for entertaining or cozy evenings.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (9 oz / 250 g), thawed

Cheese and Toppings

  • 4 oz (115 g) Brie cheese, sliced
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup (30 g) toasted walnuts, chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (optional, 2 g)

Additional

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp hot honey (30 ml)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking the tart.
  2. Prepare the puff pastry: Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the lined baking sheet. Use a knife to score a ½-inch border around the edges, being careful not to cut all the way through. This will allow the edges to puff up nicely.
  3. Assemble the tart: Arrange the sliced Brie cheese within the scored border, slightly overlapping the slices to ensure even coverage.
  4. Add toppings: Evenly sprinkle the dried cranberries and the chopped toasted walnuts over the Brie cheese, distributing the flavors throughout the tart.
  5. Apply egg wash: Brush the edges of the puff pastry with the beaten egg to give the crust a beautiful golden color when baked.
  6. Bake the tart: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes until the pastry is puffed up, golden brown, and the Brie cheese has melted.
  7. Finish with honey and thyme: Once baked, let the tart cool slightly. Drizzle the hot honey evenly over the top and, if desired, sprinkle fresh thyme leaves for a fragrant finish.
  8. Serve: Slice the tart and serve warm or at room temperature, perfect as an appetizer or light snack.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is thoroughly thawed before unrolling to prevent tearing.
  • To toast walnuts, heat them in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
  • If you prefer less sweetness, reduce the amount of hot honey drizzle or omit it altogether.
  • This tart can be made ahead and reheated gently in the oven before serving.
  • Experiment with different nuts or fruits such as pecans or dried apricots for variation.
