Chicken and Cheddar Crescent Rolls Bake Recipe

  • Author: Charlotte
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Chicken Crescent Rolls are a comforting and easy-to-make dish featuring tender chicken and melted cheddar cheese wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, baked in a creamy mushroom sauce for a delicious, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling and Sauce

  • 1 cup cooked, finely diced chicken (or canned chicken)
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • ¼ cup milk

Dough

  • 1 (8 ounce) tube refrigerated Pillsbury crescent roll dough (8 count)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Sauce: Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a mixing bowl, combine the condensed cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half (½ cup) of the grated cheddar cheese. Stir everything together until well blended. Pour this mixture evenly into the bottom of an 8-inch square baking dish and set it aside.
  2. Mix Chicken Filling: In a separate bowl, mix the cooked, finely diced chicken with the remaining half (½ cup) of cheddar cheese. Ensure the chicken and cheese are evenly combined to create a flavorful filling.
  3. Prepare Crescent Rolls: Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 individual triangles.
  4. Fill and Roll Dough: Place about 1 to 2 heaping tablespoons of the chicken and cheese mixture on the wide end of each crescent roll triangle. Roll the dough up tightly around the filling, tucking the edges as you go to seal in the filling securely.
  5. Arrange in Baking Dish: Place each filled crescent roll seam-side down on top of the mushroom soup mixture in the baking dish. Arrange them evenly, ensuring they are nestled into the sauce.
  6. Bake: Bake the dish uncovered in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the tops of the crescent rolls are golden brown. The bottoms of the rolls, which are submerged in the sauce, will remain soft but fully cooked, resembling dumplings.

Notes

  • Use precooked chicken to save time; rotisserie chicken works well.
  • If you prefer, substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken soup for a different flavor.
  • For a crispier texture, brush the tops of the crescent rolls with a little melted butter before baking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
  • For a gluten-free option, try using gluten-free crescent roll dough if available.
