Description
Tender and flavorful Crockpot Steak Bites made with seared sirloin steak cooked low and slow with savory garlic, onions, beef stock, and au jus gravy for a comforting and easy meal.
Ingredients
Scale
Steak and Seasoning
- 3 pounds sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Cooking Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 small sweet onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 1 cup unsalted beef stock
- 1 (1 ounce) packet au jus gravy mix
- 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, thinly sliced
Garnish
- Fresh chopped parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Season the steak: Place the cubed sirloin steak into a large bowl. Sprinkle with kosher salt and black pepper, then toss thoroughly to evenly coat the meat with the seasoning.
- Sear the steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add half of the vegetable oil. Working in batches to avoid overcrowding, sear the steak pieces in the hot pan until browned on all sides, then transfer them to the slow cooker. Add more oil to the pan as needed for subsequent batches.
- Add aromatics: Place the thinly sliced sweet onion and garlic cloves into the slow cooker and toss them with the seared steak bites to combine flavors.
- Prepare the cooking liquid: Pour in the unsalted beef stock and sprinkle the au jus gravy mix over the mixture in the slow cooker. Arrange the thin slices of unsalted butter on top of the steak and aromatics.
- Slow cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or on low for 6 to 8 hours. If possible, stir the mixture every 30 minutes to ensure even cooking and flavor distribution.
- Serve and garnish: Once cooking is complete, serve the warm steak bites garnished with freshly chopped parsley if desired for added color and freshness.
Notes
- For best flavor, do not overcrowd the skillet when searing to ensure proper browning.
- You can use other cuts of steak suitable for slow cooking, such as flank or ribeye, cut into bite-sized pieces.
- Stirring occasionally during the slow cooking helps prevent sticking and helps meld flavors.
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can remove the slow cooker lid near the end of cooking and let the liquid reduce slightly.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
