Ingredients
Scale
Slider Assembly
- 12 sweet rolls
- 10 slices provolone cheese
- 14 ounces sliced deli roast beef
Onion Topping
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Butter Sauce
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 tablespoons dried onion soup mix
Au Jus
- 1 packet au jus gravy mix
- 3 cups water
Garnish (optional)
- Fresh chopped parsley
Instructions
- Cook Onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the thinly sliced onions and coat them evenly in the butter. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 12-15 minutes until the onions are soft and browned but not burnt. Remove from heat and stir in minced thyme, kosher salt, and black pepper; set aside.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
- Prepare Rolls: Take the sweet rolls out, keeping them intact. Using a large knife, slice the rolls horizontally so that you separate the tops from the bottoms. Place the bottom halves, cut side up, in an 11×7 inch baking dish.
- Assemble Sliders: Layer half of the provolone cheese slices evenly over the bottom rolls. Next, arrange the sliced roast beef on top of the cheese. Spread the cooked onion mixture evenly over the roast beef, then add the remaining provolone cheese slices. Finally, place the top halves of the rolls over the cheese.
- Make Butter Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter with the dried onion soup mix, stirring well to blend.
- Add Sauce and Bake: Brush the butter and onion soup mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls, ensuring good coverage. Loosely cover the baking dish with foil, making sure it does not touch the rolls. Bake for 25 minutes.
- Brown the Rolls: Remove the foil and bake the sliders an additional 5 minutes to brown the tops and melt the cheese thoroughly.
- Prepare Au Jus: While the sliders bake, prepare the au jus gravy according to the package directions using 3 cups of water.
- Serve: Garnish the sliders with optional fresh chopped parsley. Serve warm with the au jus on the side for dipping. Enjoy your flavorful French Dip Sliders!
Notes
- Make sure to cook the onions until caramelized but not burnt to bring out their natural sweetness.
- Using sweet rolls enhances the flavor and balances the savory beef and cheese.
- You can substitute provolone with mozzarella or Swiss cheese based on preference.
- The au jus gravy adds authentic flavor and moisture—don’t skip this step for dipping.
- Brush the butter mixture evenly to ensure the tops brown nicely and add extra onion flavor.
- Covering with foil prevents drying out while baking but removing it at the end creates a crispy top.
