Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 cup untoasted sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup honey (preferably raw)
- 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line a small sheet pan with parchment paper and lightly brush it with extra virgin olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Toast the Seeds: Place the untoasted sesame seeds in a nonstick pan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the seeds gleam and turn golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, releasing their natural oils and aroma.
- Warm the Honey: Reduce the heat to medium and pour the honey into the pan. Stir continuously as it warms and begins bubbling at around 250°F, boiling gently for roughly 3-4 minutes to thicken and caramelize slightly.
- Combine Ingredients: Carefully add the toasted sesame seeds back into the honey. Stir nonstop for about 5 minutes, ensuring the seeds are fully coated in the bubbling honey mixture.
- Spread the Mixture: Quickly transfer the hot honey and sesame blend onto the prepared sheet pan. Using parchment paper or a rolling pin, spread and flatten the mixture for an even thickness.
- Cool and Cut: Allow the candy to cool at room temperature for about 20 minutes until set and firm. Then, use a sharp knife to cut it into small rectangular bars or squares.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, toast the sesame seeds until golden but be careful not to burn them.
- Use raw honey for enhanced health benefits and natural sweetness.
- Work quickly when spreading the mixture as it hardens fast.
- Store the candy in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness.
- This recipe can be doubled easily by using a larger pan.
