Ingredients
Scale
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 2 large eggs
- ⅓ cup natural peanut butter (no xylitol or sugar substitutes)
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (all-purpose flour can be used instead)
- ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon; no nutmeg)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, eggs, and natural peanut butter. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and completely combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Sprinkle in the whole wheat flour and pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon). Stir gently just until the dough comes together and no dry flour remains.
- Roll Out Dough: Lightly flour a clean, flat surface. Roll the dough out to approximately one-quarter inch thickness. Use additional flour as necessary to prevent sticking.
- Cut Shapes: Using cookie cutters, cut the dough into desired shapes. Transfer the cutouts onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
- Bake Treats: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 40 minutes, adjusting baking time to achieve your preferred crunchiness—shorter time for softer treats, longer for crunchy.
- Cool and Store: Remove the treats from the oven and let them cool completely on a cooling rack. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month or freeze for up to 6 months.
Notes
- Ensure that the peanut butter used contains NO xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs.
- Do not use nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice blends containing nutmeg, since nutmeg can be harmful to dogs.
- The baking time can be adjusted to achieve softer or crunchier treats.
- Whole wheat flour adds fiber and nutrients, but all-purpose flour can be substituted if necessary.
- Store the treats properly to maintain freshness and avoid spoilage.
- These treats make great training rewards and are free from artificial preservatives and additives.
