  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 16 brownies 1x

Description

Delight in these rich and decadent Tiramisu Brownies that combine the intense chocolate flavor of fudgy brownies with the creamy, coffee-infused mascarpone topping inspired by classic tiramisu. Perfect for dessert lovers seeking a luscious treat with a sophisticated twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 8 Tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 Tablespoons coconut oil or avocado oil or vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate bar (chopped)

Mascarpone Topping

  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 5 Tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish and set aside to prepare for baking the brownies.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth and combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking thoroughly. Stir in the vegetable oil and cocoa powder until the mixture turns glossy and smooth.
  3. Fold Dry Ingredients: Slowly fold in the flour, 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt, mixing until no streaks of flour remain. Be careful not to overmix to keep the batter tender. Gently fold in the chopped semi-sweet chocolate pieces.
  4. Bake Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter. Avoid overbaking to retain fudgy texture.
  5. Cool Completely: Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the baking dish before adding the topping. This step is crucial to prevent the topping from melting or running. You can prepare brownies a day ahead and refrigerate.
  6. Prepare Mascarpone Topping: In a medium mixing bowl, beat together the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, instant espresso powder, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. The mixture should be light, fluffy, and spreadable, resembling a classic tiramisu cream.
  7. Assemble and Serve: Spread the mascarpone topping generously over the completely cooled brownies using a spatula. Optionally dust with additional cocoa powder for garnish. Slice into squares and serve immediately or refrigerate until ready to serve for a chilled experience.

Notes

  • Make sure the brownies are completely cooled before adding the mascarpone topping to prevent it from melting.
  • Using instant espresso powder in both batter and topping enhances the coffee flavor without adding liquid.
  • Brownies can be baked a day ahead and topped just before serving to save time.
  • For a dairy-free variation, substitute mascarpone and heavy cream with suitable plant-based alternatives.
  • Store leftover brownies covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
