Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich Base
- 4 slices sandwich bread
Spreads
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp honey Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp butter, softened
Fillings
- 1/4 lb thinly sliced turkey
- 2 thick slices Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced red onion
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Prepare bread with mayonnaise: Spread the mayonnaise evenly on the inside surfaces of two slices of sandwich bread to create a creamy base for the sandwich fillings.
- Layer the fillings: Divide the turkey, Monterey Jack cheese, and red onion between the two slices of bread with mayonnaise. Season generously with salt and pepper to enhance the flavors.
- Add honey Dijon mustard: Spread the honey Dijon mustard evenly on the inside of the remaining two slices of sandwich bread, then place these slices on top of the layered fillings, forming two complete sandwiches.
- Butter the outsides: Spread the softened butter evenly on the outside surfaces of each sandwich. This will help achieve a golden brown and crispy texture during toasting.
- Toast the sandwiches: Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches butter-side-down onto the skillet. Toast until the bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt, then carefully flip the sandwiches to toast the other sides until they are also golden and the cheese is fully melted. Remove from heat and serve warm.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a slice of tomato or some fresh spinach inside the sandwich.
- Use whole wheat or multigrain bread for a healthier option.
- Adjust the amount of honey Dijon mustard according to your preferred taste balance between sweet and tangy.
- Be careful when flipping the sandwich to keep all ingredients securely inside.
- If you don’t have Monterey Jack cheese, you can substitute with mozzarella or cheddar.
