Description
These Voodoo Egg Rolls are a delicious twist on the classic appetizer, featuring a flavorful Cajun-spiced ground beef filling with cheddar cheese, green onions, and carrots, all wrapped in crispy egg roll wrappers and fried to golden perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Wraps and Frying
- 10 to 12 egg roll wrappers
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Cook the ground beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and no longer pink, then drain any excess grease to avoid soggy filling.
- Season the beef: Add Cajun seasoning and garlic powder to the cooked beef, stirring well to evenly coat. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Combine the filling: In a large bowl, mix the seasoned beef with shredded cheddar cheese, chopped green onions, and shredded carrots until fully combined.
- Prepare wrappers: Lay one egg roll wrapper on a clean flat surface in a diamond shape, positioning it so one corner is pointing towards you.
- Add the filling: Place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the beef mixture near the center of the wrapper, slightly closer to the bottom corner.
- Roll the egg roll: Fold the bottom corner over the filling, then fold in the left and right sides snugly. Roll tightly towards the top corner to form a neat egg roll.
- Seal the edge: Dab a little water along the top corner edge to seal the egg roll and prevent it from opening while frying.
- Heat the oil: In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) to ensure proper frying temperature.
- Fry the egg rolls: Fry the egg rolls in batches, turning occasionally for even browning, until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.
- Drain and serve: Remove the egg rolls from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the filling is not too wet to keep egg rolls crispy.
- You can serve these with a dipping sauce like ranch, hot sauce, or sweet chili sauce.
- Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature for perfect frying results.
- Leftover egg rolls can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for crispiness.
